Cerestar in conjunction with Fine Enterprise hosts major Erythritol workshop

Seoul, April 20, 2001 - Fine Enterprises, Cerestar's Korean agent company promoting C*Eridex, hosted a workshop for senior executives in major food and drinks companies interested in the developments in the use of erythritol in the Korean market.  The Korean authorities approved erythritol in September 2000 as a natural food additive.

C*Eridex is Cerestar's novel and unique erythritol bulk sweetener with a calorie value very close to zero and approximately 70% as sweet as sucrose, its small molecular size means that it is easily absorbed in the gut and does not cause digestive problems under its anticipated conditions of use.

The workshop attracted many industry experts, including Dr Albert Bär, a world-leading expert on polyols and director of the Toothfriendly Sweets International Association; Professor Seung-Chul Shin, a dental expert from Dankook University; and Mr Nakamura, the Japanese Government's consultant food science engineer.  Key research and development executives from many of Korea's leading manufacturers also attended the event to find out more about the development of this newly approved sweetener, its health properties (including dental benefits and suitability for diabetics) and erythritol's world-wide regulatory status.

A significant number of projects are already underway to develop C*Eridex based products for the Korean food market.  There is great interest from manufacturers to develop C*Eridex as a noncaloric bulk sweetener in sugarless chewing gum and other confectionery items, tabletop sweeteners and diet beverages due to the improved taste and mouth feel.

More information about C*Eridex can be found at www.eridex.com.
