All-natural polyol sweetener approved in Australia and New Zealand

The Australia/New Zealand Food Authorities (ANZFA) has given its stamp of approval to a revolutionary new all-natural polyol sweetener.

C*Eridex from Cerestar – the world's leading producer of starch-derived ingredients - has been approved for food use in Australia and New Zealand.

Based on glucose, and manufactured using a fermentation process, C*Eridex occurs naturally in many fruits and vegetables. Its near-zero calorie content and unique functional properties have already made it a success in Japan, where it where it is used in more than 100 food and beverage products.

C*Eridex's extensive safety database raises no toxicological concerns. A key element of the safety profile is the fact that erythritol's gastrointestinal tolerance is very high compared to all other polyols. Its unique properties mean that although it is not metabolised when eaten, it is easily digested, does not cause dental caries, and does not raise blood sugar levels.

In addition to its nutritional and health benefits, C*Eridex offers functional advantages to food manufacturers. It can act as a flavour enhancer, bulking agent, stabiliser and thickener, improving the sensorial qualities of foods and beverages and making a much wider variety of reduced calorie, toothfriendly products possible.

C*Eridex is also available in the US. Approval in the EU is still pending.
